The Ouran Host Club anime

Well, the first episode of Ouran High School Host Club was everything I could have hoped for. sniff! I should have known they wouldn’t screw it up! The animation was wonderful, the colours were fantastic and the voice actors were great. The plot was kept very close to the original – they did some editing and compressing (as usual for anime) but there were no major departures from the manga. (Well, except for the thing with Honey and the cake, which is one of my favorite comic moments from the manga. It may be a change or it may just be a difference in translators. I don’t know enough about the original of either to know for sure.)
I made some screen caps, mostly of the guys in various poses to show off the animation, but as USUAL WordPress has gone wonky when it comes to uploading images. It’s also messing up my spacing between pictures. arg. Soooo, here’s the one I managed to upload before it stopped working. I’ll try again tomorrow. {:( Okay, I’m trying again tonight and it’s sort of working. I’ll see how many I can add before it stops again. I got all of the caps to load. I didn’t do the whole episode, so go watch it! It’s fun!
Ouran High School Host Club: episode 1
One day exchange student Haruhi discovers The Ouran High School Host Club while looking for a quiet place to study.
The boys are quite excited to meet the commoner who goes to their school.
Keep your eye on the vase.
No, really. Watch the vase.
Now to introduce the Host Club members, who will be happy to serve you, even if you are the wrong gender:
Cute and cuddly Hunny and the strong, silent Mori (who as far as I can tell has no dialogue in this episode.)
The twins Kaoru and Hikaru Hitachiin, who take brotherly love to a dangerous new level.
The cool, collected Kyoya.
And of course, the King, Tamaki.
Remember the vase?
It broke.
Now Haruhi owes the Host Club 8 million yen and gets to work it off by running errands.
The brave Host Club King will now DRINK the instant coffee!! Ooooooh!
Tamaki assumes his dejected pose.
But, of course the boys discover that under the bad haircut, awful clothes and the glasses that Haruhi is actually really cute…
…and is forced to become a member of the Host Club to pay for the vase.
Only 100 customers to go until Haruhi is debt free!
Tamaki eventually clues in to the fact that Haruhi is a girl.
A really cute girl.
But unfortunately a weird one who doesn’t mind dressing as a boy to pay off her debt.
Okay, that’s it for the Host Club stuff for a while, I swear!

What was so awesome about the anime was that even though I’ve read the first Ouran gn to DEATH I still found the anime to be charming and funny. Truely the mark of an awesome series. :) Ah, my manga collection. I had to keep reminding myself of it today as I worked Good Friday at the bookstore… time and a half = more manga at the Toronto Comicon…

Aw, it’s okay…they were…like a weird file or something…I don’t know why my computer wouldn’t recognize them as jpg…^^’ My computer is now overflown with Host Club pictures…yay!! Love from the cooler Hitachiin twin–Hikaru! (I’m most like him as my friend is most like Kaoru…wootness! Hikaru and Kaoru look so cute with their blue and pink hair! Yes, I'm a fan of the twins, too, but I still can't tell them apart! lol. I'm glad they get featured in the manga so much.
Oh, crud. I just went and checked and ep five looks like it might be subtitled now… I'm downloading it. Guess I won't be going to bed anytime soon! lol.

Hey…it’s the weekend…who cares? ^_^ I’ve been watching Host Club at school cuz I’m not allowed to use youtube here…paranoid mother -_-‘ But my school has now blocked the site and…I can no longer watch Host Club *gloom* But…my friend (the one who’s Kaoru) has it downloaded on her laptop–HOORAY! ^_^ And I shall visit that site…even though I’ve only seen like half of the first episode lol…

Hope you have fun watching Host Club. It’s such a fun show… I think I like the manga more – they get to put in so many more visual jokes – but the anime is awesome. Does YouTube count if it’s on someone’s website? I stuck the opening animation into my new post last night. It’s kind of a weird add-on, but it was 3:30am by then so I think I didn’t care that much about the flow of the post. :P

Aww, I’m sorry! I was off watching anime… Tamaki always looks like he’s having fun in the corner, even if he is sulking. I think it’s because he knows people are paying more attention to him. :)

That’s okay – they were stuck in moderation for some reason. Probably because of the website. You guys have such awesome icons! I really loved the polaroid type ones. I’m not very creative myself so I like to see the kinds of stuff people come up with.
I’m up to episode 7 of the anime now but haven’t made many more screen caps. I have a REALLY cute one of Haruhi, though. I’ve been kind of busy lately though, and I was messing around with my header the other night which took up WAY too much time! I feel like I haven’t done a real post in ages….

Hmm. Well, as of last night there are a total of 10 episodes of the anime (fansubbed and unsubbed) and there are 6 volumes of the manga available in English. I think they’re up to at least volume 8 in Japan and it’s not finished yet. (I’ve seen volume 8 and it doesn’t look like any sort of ending, anyway.) Volume 7 of the manga isn’t being released until September. :(

Episode 11 has Nekozawa’s little sister showing up at the club looking for her older brother. I just double checked my manga and they skipped the Hallowe’en and Valentine’s Day chapters, and pretty much all of volume 4… hopefully they go back to them, but maybe the timing is wrong for it. I loved the Hallowe’en story, though. :(

I guess it depends on where you live. :) I know they’re available in the US and Canada… you can check to see if your town has a comic book store (yellow pages!) or even a bookstore should be able to order it for you. I guess if you don’t have either in your town, you could order it online, either from the publisher or Amazon. And you can use money orders at Amazon as well, so you don’t even need a credit card (money order from a bank, though, I think.)
I’m not sure about outside of North America though… Find someone to mail you one? :)

But I think Borders gets advance manga from one of the publishers… Go! Comi maybe? It’d be cool to be able to get those quicker. In Canada Indigo owns Chapters and Coles, too, so the stock tends to be boringly predictable at a lot of the stores. Except the one I work at. We have some manga fans working so we nagged until we had a kick ass section. :)

Oh, and me and Kaoru thought of the perfect English cast for Host Club…I’m going to try to get in contact with Funimation and ADV Films and try to convince them to buy the show, cast the actors we suggest and make it in English already!

This is true…but FullMetal Alchemist is an exception since FUNimation owns it, and Viz owns the manga…but then I think the manga was translated after the anime because the anime was made in Japan while the manga was still coming out…yeah! Lol. When I watched InuYasha today, it said that Vancouver was in Canada when it talked about the Viz recording studio or whatever…so, yay! But, there’s a studio in San Francisco too (only know this because I sent them a letter and it was to San Francisco), so yeah…I’ve said yeah a lot… *frolics off to myspace*

The whole series is really awesome. The Japanese and English dialogue is only a little different. But, it has to be to match with the mouths of the characters. ^_^ Go Vic Mignogna!

Some of the FMA voice actors are going to be at the anime/comic/sci fi convention here in Toronto in September. I haven’t checked out any voice actors since Sailor Moon was on tv. Maybe I’ll swing by their table this year…

Ouran is my favorite anime right now… it’s so much fun. I like poking around on other people’s websites to see the creative pictures they can make. They’re all so pretty! Screencaps are about the limits of my talents, tho sometimes I just go for the shallow gorgeous guy shots. :)

Heh. I did episode 17 last night, but it was a mere three pictures. Did you know that there’s an Ouran soundtrack coming out this month? I haven’t done anything as useful as look up what’s on it, but it’s listed at Amazon with zero details… I have one already but I think it’s volume two, and it’s mostly the classical background music and one character song each for Tamaki, Hunny and Mori. (!) The last two are the best.

I want it!! *starts sending A-1 Comics a bunch of e-mails to get it in* When I asked them if they could get in the DVDs, they said, “not yet” for import reasons or something. How long do you have to wait!? Well, I guess the FMA took a while to get here…I think I bought it in June and it’d been out for a looong time…and it’s coming out in October in English…T_T But, I’ll ask them about the soundtrack. ^^ If I get it, I’ll let you know about it. Do you have aim?

Eh. One of them is more expensive, so there has to be a difference somewhere. I’m too lazy to figure it out tonight. And I have new manga to read… They don’t have English listed in the product descriptions, but I’m guessing that has to be wrong.
Can you play dvds imported from Japan? They have a different region code there so you’d need a multiplayer…

Okay let’s see *wondering where to start replying* Lol.
Yeah, I knew the CD was imported. So was the FMA movie lol. You just have to wait a certain amount of time until it’s legal to sell Japanese stuff here or something.
Well, I heard the movie’s coming out October 4th, but, when I checked with Best Buy, they said they’re getting it in end of September…so, I’m going with September ^^
The movie makes no sense to begin with…but, with all the differences between the manga and anime, it will make no sense AT ALL! ^^’ If you want me to try to summarize the differences for you, I will. Otherwise, I’d suggest watching episode 29 (all about Wrath…who is totally different from the Wrath in the manga) and then 49-51 just cuz they sum up the series. 48 is when Sloth dies…but I guess that doesn’t really matter lol. But, end of 48 continues into 49, so…hm…just watch as much as you can on YouTube ^^
I could play the DVD I bought on my USA DVD player! ^_~ So, I think so…

The movie? I saw most of it at the bookstore, and I have the soundtrack, which is pretty good. I’ve heard some of the original broadway soundtrack, but I like the movie soundtrack better. (I like Rosario Dawson as Mimi).
And Momiji’s episode of Fruits Basket always makes me cry so I know where you’re coming from on the FMA thing. :)

Yeah…I’ve seen it once, mainly cuz Kaoru’s like obsessed with it ^^’ But, I just got the soundtrack burned for me. It is pretty good n_n
Aw, yeah…I think that episode made me cry, too…but, what made me really cry was when Hughes died in FMA…FMA’s actually a pretty depressing anime/manga ^^’

Only seen one episode of Full Moon..and no clue how to spell it ^^’ And I’ve read volume one of Pita-Ten manga…so, neither of them made me cry lol. For me, FMA, Furuba, I’m sure InuYasha at a time, Naruto (when Haku died, when I thought Kakashi died, and when Sasuke “died”), and I think Zatch Bell made me teary eyed with the whole Kalulu thing…but they really over-used her flashback. I stopped watching that show because it got too…slow, I guess. Lots of movies make me cry, too, though ^^’

The anime and manga for Pita Ten are both a little different from each other – the manga had a lot more background on Shia, for one thing. The anime was fantastic, though, and the end of it is what made me cry. sniff!
And Full Moon. sheesh! Dying 12 year old searching for a lost love… and the two shinigami who were dead themselves… I’m surprised I only cried twice, and once was ’cause it was a happy moment. I was a sucker. :)

Yeah…Kaoru knows more about it than me. I only saw the first episode cuz it came for free with Shojo Beat (yes…I bought Shojo Beat lol). And he was saying how he loved Eichi and how it was so sad that he died or something and I was like “he’s dead??” and he’s like “…yeah…” Cuz he knows I hate spoilers, but that’s not the point! The whole concept of her dying in a year…and then…yeah, I think it was Kaoru explained to me how the shinigami became what they are because they commited suicide and the whole confusing thing with the dad and the grandma…x_x’ Ugh…it’s confusing and depressing.

Well, no pressure or anything! :) Full Moon could get pretty depressing, but I also watched like 15 episodes in a row all night ’cause I couldn’t stop watching… Pita Ten is cuter, though, and has more humour. There were just a couple of sad parts thrown in.

Ahem! Well, I didn’t download it. There are stores here that sell subbed unlicensed anime. The subs suck a lot of the time (I think they get translated into Chinese and then into English and it doesn’t always translate well.) I’ve never looked for it online so I don’t know how readily available it is.

Ouran… I have them all on my computer, I just haven’t gotten around to them. I did skip ahead and watch 17, though. And I’ve seen the unsubbed version of 18 (which has Hunny’s little brother) and it was really funny, even without the subs. I’m dwnlding a subbed version now. And the 19th without subs… Too much Ouran!
I say that of course, but I’ve been watching two other series this week and haven’t had time for Ouran. What kind of a fan am I?

Aww! That’s too bad. No Pita Ten for you! My nephew still laughs about the PT tapes I gave him… the subs were really bad and they kept calling Misha an “angle” instead of angel. heh.
And I’m almost done watching Gakuen Heaven… only two more episodes to go then it’s back to Ouran! And I want to do some caps of the Haruhi in Wonderland ep, ’cause it was just so pretty….

It was episode 13, and it was so neat! The twins were the Cheshire Cat(s) if you didn’t know…
Gakuen Heaven… it’s kind of a shonen-ai series. A “regular” boy gets invited to study at this incredibly exclusive boys school and he has to get used to going there, while the Vice Chairman of the school tries to get rid of him. I can’t say it was really good, but it kept me watching. I haven’t quite figured out why yet.

Yep! Knew we were the Chesire Cats! n_n Just watched the original (well, the Disney version, anyway) when I was really really bored a few days ago. I was trying to figure out who the other people would be…but, I didn’t really figure anything out…that movie’s really depressing…*sigh* Lol.
I know series like that ^^ Like, E’s Otherwise…not very well-known, but, I watched all 6 volumes that Kaoru bought…never really liked the show, though…>.>
Yay! I was just watching those on my camcorder and convincing Haruhi that the cellphone ringtone and the music I/she was listening to (when I gave her the headphones) were both the ending theme!
So…school…it starts tomorrow for me…x_x’ What about you?

You have to go back to school already? Hmm. School in Canada doesn’t usually start until after Labour Day. (First Monday in September, if you don’t celebrate in the US)
And, you might not be able to tell if you don’t read the rest of my blog, (and it’s always hard to tell online) but I’m not actually in school. I work at a library full time and a bookstore part time. I don’t miss school at all… I took a beginners Japanese class a few weeks back and it was really hard to go in every week…

I think the opposite probably happens in the schools here – if there are too many snow days during the year school ends farther into the summer. Winters don’t seem to be as bad as they used to be though. :)

Nope! You can download your own file so the sky’s the limit! I’m lacking in imagination though, so I kept it simple. My first icon was the Robin symbol (like Batman and Robin) but it didn’t quite fit. I like the cat though.
This week was the last episdoe of Ouran. Very very sad day. I haven’t watched it yet, though. I’m going to have to start keeping my ears open to see if there’s going to be a season two. :(

Well, I can’t tell you where to download the manga (though I think they’re still on volume 10 in Japan), but it’s pretty common for an anime series to leave you hanging after 26 episodes. You’re supposed to go buy the manga. :) I’ve been putting off watching the last few episodes (it’s not over as long as I still have Ouran to watch) so I’m not sure how much of a cliffhanger they left it on.
Still, two of the worst screw-over ending of anime I’ve ever seen were Kare Kano and Twelve Kingdoms so I’ll probably have a different perspective. :)

Actually I heard that Funidimation might take in Ouran Host Club. And Funidimation in Texas.
I went to an anime convention and Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric from FMA, Ikaku from BLEACH, Dark from DNAngel) said that he really wants to be Tamaki.
(And no the Fruits Basket dub was awesome)

Oof. Going to have to disagree with you on the Furuba dub. I really really didn’t like it. Fullmetal Alchemist isn’t bad, and I tend to not mind most of the Viz stuff that comes out. I think my big problem now with Viz stuff is the dialogue they’re forced to add in to make the lip syncing work.
I fully admit to being a dub snob though. :) The only two series I will still watch in English is early Ranma and Escaflowne. Hmm. And I like the first Tenchi movie in English.

I agree that the Fruits Basket dubbing could have been better, but compared to some of the dubbed anime that I’ve seen it was pretty darn good! Also, I think that it would be very…interesting to see Vic Mignogna play as Tamaki. My twin sister absolutely hates Dark though and wants to “destroy” him, as she so nicely phrases it. Heh heh. It’s actually pretty funny to watch since we own four disks of the series. She twitches every time they show him. LOL I want to see the rest of the series for two reasons: 1) because it is a good series and 2) so I can see Amber’s face. Aren’t I so nice?
Anyway, sorry for rambling ^_^; It happens whenever I’m in a talkative mood. Have A Nice Day!!!

OMG! When I was thinking of voice actors for Ouran, I immediately thought of Vic Mignogna being Tamaki! I can totally see it! But I think that if he did do it, he should voice Tamaki the same way he did Ed for Fullmetal Alchemist. I don’t like him so much in D.N.Angel.
