my manga library

(Please note:  These are actual books, not scanlations.  Posted for friends who borrow from me!)

Key to the list:

(complete) = series has completed publication (and I’ve bought them all)
* = currently collecting this series
(standalone) = not a series, so there’s only one
(novel) = not illustrated, text novelization
blank = titles I don’t *need* to buy when they first come in, pick up used or on sale or decided not to collect after all – basically titles I have no firm commitment to.

This list also includes some non-manga but non-superhero titles that I keep on my shelves with the manga.

OMG you have so much. Is THERE ONLY 4 VOLUMES IN AZUMANGA DAIOH? thats really surprising…

  • 2. pajcat  |  June 1, 2006 at 7:06 am

Yeah, it was a really short series. I found the comic strip format a bit odd, but it was pretty good. If you liked Azumanga Daioh, you should read Yotsuba&! It’s by the same author and is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. :)

  • 3. Angela  |  June 1, 2006 at 9:35 pm

    Okies thanx ^^

  • 4. Ama  |  July 2, 2006 at 11:04 am

How is Peach Girl? I have only volume 1 and I’ve seen the anime, I’m not sure if it’s worth the other almost 200 dollars… Plus I’m collecting a lot of other series.

  • 5. pajcat  |  July 2, 2006 at 11:23 am

I avoided Peach Girl for a while, because I thought the cover art was creepy and the title seemed a little suggestive. I figured it would be more “adult” than it actually is. Then I had one of my “I need more manga to buy!!” days and finally picked it up. I had to go back the next day for the next volume… then back the next day again. You get the picture! It was pretty addictive for me. The art grew on me quickly too, and now I love it.

If you’ve seen a lot of the anime, you might not be as interested in the manga. For me, what was pulling me in was the plot. How far would Sae go, would Momo ever get free of her, Toji or Kiley?? If you already know what’s going to happen, I don’t think it’s as fun. Still a great series, though.

Change of Heart wasn’t quite as good as the original series. It was a little quieter, didn’t have the same level of tension for me. It was still good, though, don’t get me wrong. Just a litte softer.

  • 6. Ama  |  July 2, 2006 at 2:05 pm

Ah, yes, I do remember the series. At first I liked Toji, but then I grew to like Kairi. My… that last episode. I was so happy with whom she ended up with. I introduced it to a friend of mine who was signed up for a site where you paid $10 a month to download, she downloaded it and she loved it too.

  • 7. pajcat  |  July 2, 2006 at 2:20 pm

Have you seen the live action version? I’ve only watched the first episode, but it was pretty cute. They all got bumped up to university, which I think is standard for the LA adaptations. (The ones from Taiwan, anyway… Um, pretty sure it was Taiwan…) The actor playing Kiley was the one I liked from Meteor Garden/Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers. They other guys from that series star in Mars and Marmalade Boy as well.

  • 8. Ama  |  July 2, 2006 at 3:28 pm

Actually, no, I’ve only seen the anime. I remember loving that anime to death and watching it last summer. -Sigh- It’s one of the only anime I’ve managed to see the entire way through.

  • 9. Ama  |  July 2, 2006 at 3:32 pm

Ah, I just realized you don’t have Chibi Vampires (Karin) here. You should buy it, I loved the Karin anime and the manga is said to be even better!

  • 10. pajcat  |  July 2, 2006 at 8:18 pm

Really? I’ll try to check it out next time I’m at the bookstore. Can’t remember why I didn’t buy it… maybe because I had read Tsukuyomi Moon Phase and was all cute vampired out. :)

  • 11. Ama  |  July 2, 2006 at 9:58 pm

It’s nothing like the name, I think they just renamed it because there’s another manga named Karin. Granted it’s about vampires, but the vampires aren’t really cute-cute. Just more.. Gah, hard to explain. Check ANN for a summary?

  • 12. paige  |  July 28, 2006 at 4:57 pm

Awww no Marmalade Boy for you? I just loved that manga. I read it awhile ago but I though it was pretty nice and sweet, with a good ending too. I thought it was a really cute love story.

  • 13. pajcat  |  July 28, 2006 at 9:25 pm

I had it at one point, then I traded it to a friend who liked it more than I did. I thought it was good, but the brother/sister thing was kind of freaky for me. :) I liked Ultra Maniac by the same author a lot better.

  • 14. luka  |  July 29, 2006 at 8:10 am

    hi there….
    just wanna ask something..
pls. answer me, i beg u…
is it true that the one who end up with momo-chan in the series peach girl is kairi?
if so, what happened when, momo-chan was asked by touji to break up with him first before she can go to kairi…

  • 15. pajcat  |  July 29, 2006 at 11:06 am

Yep! She ended up with Kiley (to use the Tokyopop manga spelling) in both the first series and Change of Heart. I’m not sure about your second question, though. Do you mean in the first series? I’m away from home right now and don’t have access to the books (!) but in the first part Sae gets nasty photos of Momo and forces Touji to break up with her and date Sae instead. Kiley picks up the pieces and he and Momo end up together.

That’s what I can remember, anyway. Now I want to reread my Peach Girl books to make sure. :)

The Change of Heart series had a lot more waffling in it and Momo kind of went back and forth between Kiley and Touji more than in the first series.

  • 16. BabyGurl  |  July 31, 2006 at 4:28 pm

my friend is mad at you for have sooo many manga! she has 70 manga books. and she admires your collection. can she borrow 50 of your series? ( ok that was for me) O_o

  • 17. pajcat  |  July 31, 2006 at 6:26 pm

Heh, I’m sorry?  I’m quite fond of my manga collection, but I have to admit it’s taking over my room.  There are piles of manga everywhere now…

  • 18. Ama  |  July 31, 2006 at 8:30 pm

I hope to someday own as many as you. T_T

You stopped collecting Happy Hustle High? My friend loves it. x3

This post was basically to suggest to you to read Rozen Maiden manga. :D Though, if I’m correct, you’ve seen the anime, so I’m not sure if it’s pretty much the same.

  • 19. pajcat  |  July 31, 2006 at 10:56 pm

I have Rozen Maiden! Tho it seems I’ve left it off my list. I’d say I don’t know how that happened, but I probably do – I’m surrounded by piles of manga and I can no longer remember which ones I’ve added to my list and which ones I haven’t.

I stopped collecting H3 because it was too much like Wild Act (by the same author) which drove me crazy. I didn’t like Wild Act and it’s crazy incesty themes… H3 turned out to be better – I’ve read the whole series, I just didn’t buy it.

  • 20. Ama  |  August 1, 2006 at 9:18 pm

    Oh ^_^;

What about Rave Master, did you not like it? I really enjoyed reading it from the library.

  • 21. pajcat  |  August 1, 2006 at 9:23 pm

Yeah, Rave Master ended up being good (and it got better as it went on) but I had some of the anime and didn’t feel like doing both. I ended up getting the first story arc from the library and I liked it, I just don’t want to buy it. I think I still actually have some of the anime lying around that I haven’t watched yet either. Of course, I have a LOT of anime lying around that needs to be watched…

In an odd coincidence, the copy of Rave Master 12 that I had on hold at the library came in and I picked it up yesterday.  But I haven’t read #11 yet!  And only half of #10…. I’m hoping they arrive before I have to return #12.

  • 22. Ama  |  August 10, 2006 at 10:01 am

I’ve read all that the library has so far of Rave Master. I hope they order more soon, it reminds me of a better version of Inuyasha. Also, Rebound’s a pretty long but good series, if you haven’t checked that out yet. You can get it at the library. Oh, and they ordered a bunch of new titles from Viz and Tokyopop so you should check it out. =)

  • 23. pajcat  |  August 10, 2006 at 6:37 pm

I did check it out today! There’s so much new stuff… A friend was nice enough to lend me Harlem Beat, which is the manga series that takes place right before Rebound. When I started reading Rebound I didn’t realize that it was part two of a story. It makes a big difference if you don’t have any of the background on the characters and are supposed to know who everyone is! Anyway, I just finished reading HB and got vol 3 of Rebound from the library, so I’m going to start reading that series again. It’s pretty good, but I think my fav sports manga right now is Whistle, which is about soccer and a little more realistic than Eyeshield 21, a football comedy manga that I also really like.

  • 24. mystic  |  August 19, 2006 at 4:46 pm

wow that is a very impressive manga collection^^. I only have two chobits and a shonen jump, ’cause i’m more of an anime person. Though I recently told my brother that I going to switch to manga for a while. I wish I was old enough to get a job and buy manga and anime.
Can you please email me and tell me names of good series and stores to get them at please.

  • 25. pajcat  |  August 19, 2006 at 5:05 pm

Sure! I’ll email you later with some suggestions. As to where to buy manga… I live in Toronto, so my answers will only work for here! :)

  • 26. mystic  |  August 19, 2006 at 5:12 pm

    thanks ^^

  • 27. pajcat  |  August 19, 2006 at 6:39 pm

D’oh! I forgot to ask you what kind of anime you liked, and how old you were… :)

  • 28. Whitewolf  |  August 30, 2006 at 3:51 pm

Wow, I’m impressed at some of the rarer titles you have.

Didn’t they stop making ‘Your and My Secret’ ?

Oh! And I see you haven’t gotten the last W Juilet (#12)…I can’t believe it ended…I’m gonna miss Mako

If you ever need another manga to try, I see you don’t have ‘Crescent Moon’ up there. Its pretty good.

    Happy collecting!

  • 29. pajcat  |  August 30, 2006 at 9:44 pm

Oooh! I have rare stuff? Neat. Maybe because I’ve been collecting for so long…

I’m saddened by the fact that they haven’t published volume 2 of Your and My Secret. I can get it in Japanese, and it’s on my list of things to get some day. I guess I’ll see how much of the story I can figure out from the art.

    http://www.kikiwai.com/printed.php?action=product_list&category=1&series=1285

Don’t worry about W Juliet, though. There’s at least one more volume. #13 will be coming out in November but I did get the impression that the series will be ending soon when I read #12.

I actually read the first Crescent Moon. I borrowed it from a friend and really liked the art (it reminds me of the movie the Dark Crystal). I don’t remember exactly why I didn’t read any further – my friend probably didn’t buy any more. Maybe I’ll put it on my list of things to read.

  • 30. fullmetal maggot  |  September 1, 2006 at 10:45 pm

Have you read Dramacon? I really like it and I noticed it’s not on your list …

  • 31. pajcat  |  September 1, 2006 at 11:01 pm

Yes! I borrowed it from the library (twice) and loved it, but I’ve never gotten around to buying it for some reason. The second volume is coming out soon, maybe I’ll get both at the same time.

  • 32. fullmetal maggot  |  September 1, 2006 at 11:37 pm

The first time I read it I kept reading it right-to-left out of habit! I confused myself for awhile until I got the hang of it. *smile*

Is Socrates in Love any good? Have you read the manga or novel or both? I’m debating about whether or not I want to buy the novel …

  • 33. pajcat  |  September 2, 2006 at 12:47 am

I’ve read the manga, but a lot of the other titles that came out around that time had sample chapters of the novel. I didn’t care much for the writing so passed on the novel, but the manga is pretty good. It’s very sad though. I… I admit I cried a bit, and I don’t normally cry while reading manga. :)

  • 34. Camilla  |  September 2, 2006 at 5:15 am

Oh, this is a great site! ^_^ You mentioned you’d read the whole series of Happy Hustle High up there somewhere ^ Is the series complete at 5 volumes? I’m so envious of your huge collection!!! I’ll only have 32 volumes when everything i’ve ordered lately turns up ^_^

    The manga I have/will have are D.N.Angel 1-11(

  • 35. Camilla  |  September 2, 2006 at 5:19 am

oopsy the brackets mucked everything up :S…

    The manga I have/will have are D.N.Angel 1-11 (

  • 36. Camilla  |  September 2, 2006 at 5:24 am

    Nevermind *sigh* I don’t know why I bother sometimes… -_-

Anyway hehe I recommend Faeries’ Landing, D.N.Angel, Ark Angels, and Honey Mustard if you haven’t tried them yet ^_^ I agree with some others too that anime’s also really good, but it’s problematic when it ends midway like Karekano :S sorry to bother you and with all these repeat comments 8-)

  • 37. pajcat  |  September 2, 2006 at 11:07 am

Yes, Happy Hustle High is only 5 volumes. I didn’t really give it much of a chance when it came out – I was projecting my dislike of Wild Act onto it. I think if I had read it first I would have stuck with the whole series.

I’ve read a lot of DNAngel, but it wasn’t one I was collecting. A friend was so we’d do the trade thing to save money. I have a request in with her right now to borrow the series again since I’ve been feeling the urge to reread it.

I’ve seen Honey Mustard around but don’t think I ever really looked closely at it – I’ll give it a shot if I can find it at the bookstore. I had the first few Faeries Landing at some point, but I traded them away when I did one of my collection weeds. It just didn’t click with me, that series.

Thanks for the recommendations, though! :)

  • 38. Camilla  |  September 3, 2006 at 7:11 am

Oh great thanks ^_^ Oh right okay, that’s a good sort of arrangement to have :) I wish my friends collected manga too *-) but there’s not much of a manga culture around here *sigh* kk coolies. You’re welcome hehe ^_^ I doubt you’d need them though :)

  • 39. pajcat  |  September 3, 2006 at 11:50 am

No, I do like hearing about what people like, especially if it’s something I’ve passed over or didn’t like the first time I read it. It makes me go back and take another look to see what I was missing. :)

  • 40. fullmetal maggot  |  September 4, 2006 at 6:45 pm

Kaze Hikaru isn’t listed … have you read it?

  • 41. pajcat  |  September 4, 2006 at 7:56 pm

I started to read it when I got the first few issues of Shojo Beat. That was one I didn’t like. I don’t think it was a bad story (I thought God Child was bad) but it didn’t appeal to me. I liked Absolute Boyfriend and Baby & Me a lot more.

  • 42. Magzy  |  September 7, 2006 at 2:36 pm

WOW! That’s alot! 0.0 But I also recommend that you read Red River by Chie Shinohara. It’s a great shoujo manga. I dont think it’s completed just yet, but I know that it has over 14 volumes so far. When I first bought it, I got 5 of the first volumes coz I thought the art looked interesting and I love it! It’s a 15+ (i think) and its about a girl who goes back in time (sounds very familiar -_-;; lol i think alot of manga artists use that story) but it’s nothing like the other stories e.g. inuyasha or fushigi yuugi where a young girl gets pulled into a different magical world. This story is based on the history of Anatolia and Ancient Egypt.
Sorry for blabbing ^^;; but I really think you should add Red River to your amazing collection.

    Have a nice day (>^.^

  • 43. upwardautodidact  |  September 7, 2006 at 7:15 pm

    Woah.!!A strong Manga collector,i guess.

  • 44. pajcat  |  September 7, 2006 at 10:34 pm

Red River was a series that a friend was trading with me, so it was one I didn’t have to buy. I don’t think I’ve read the last few volumes yet (I haven’t borrowed it in a while), but the series was pretty good. Just… not “I have to own it” good. :)

  • 45. Camilla  |  September 9, 2006 at 6:04 am

Oh, do you have any idea how many volumes of Karekano there are going to end up being?

  • 46. pajcat  |  September 9, 2006 at 11:02 am

The next volume (21) is going to be the last one. It’s been an interesting series – I’m not used to reading things that go off and ignore their main characters for so long like this one does. :) I guess that’s why it could go on for so long…

  • 47. Camilla  |  September 17, 2006 at 10:14 am

Hehe true :) Thanks for the answer. Sorry I keep using you as a manga encyclopaedia ^_^

  • 48. pajcat  |  September 17, 2006 at 12:54 pm

Ha, that’s okay. I don’t mind answering questions if I know the answers. And if I don’t that means I get to go look for it and learn something new. :)

  • 49. fullmetal maggot  |  September 20, 2006 at 4:53 pm

Have you read any volumes of I.N.V.U.?

  • 50. pajcat  |  September 21, 2006 at 7:20 am

I think I’ve read the first three or four. I had bought a couple and decided it wasn’t anything I wanted to collect and traded them in. Then I read a couple more from the library. I didn’t hate it – just didn’t think it was good enough to spend $$ on.  There was a combination of I didn’t like the art/story set up didn’t work for me/didn’t like the characters that much.

And it’s annoying because one manhwa series I *did* want to buy (Sweet and Sensitive) only came out with two volumes.  I wasn’t really into manhwa at the time. I still don’t buy a lot of it now, but it’s more than when they first started coming out.

  • 51. Meaghan  |  September 22, 2006 at 1:43 pm

Can we read any manga on this site

  • 52. pajcat  |  September 22, 2006 at 6:35 pm

No, this is just a list of the manga I own. I keep it online so my friends can see what they can borrow off of me. Everything here is licensed in North America so most scanlators probably won’t have them. You’d have to dig around to find them online.

  • 53. Niki  |  September 25, 2006 at 6:49 pm

I like the idea of keeping a manga list online so that people can see what they can (and can’t) borrow off you ^^ I keep getting that “you don’t have it? Why not? You absolutely must read (read: buy) it!” thingy…
Methinks I’ll start one to — thanks again for the idea ^^

  • 54. pajcat  |  September 25, 2006 at 9:52 pm

It *is* handy! Plus, people seem to like giving me manga recommendations on this page, which is awesome. I can’t always read everything, but I’ll look at/think about a series again if someone really likes it.

  • 55. razorXroses  |  December 16, 2006 at 9:12 am

    WOW!?!?!
OMG! you’ve got so many manga’s!!!
huhuh.. i wished i had the money.
well, at least i get to read them online.. he he..
hey, is Tenshi Ja Nai nice?!?!
i’ve always wanted to read it but i dun see it being sold in bookshops near me.. ;(
and the re isn’t a place wehre i can read it online..
i hope u’ll get to collect more..
    he he..
    byeeeeeeeee…

    (o’-‘o)

  • 56. pajcat  |  December 16, 2006 at 11:14 pm

Tenshi Ja Nai is pretty good. At least, it’s my favorite out of the boy-dresses-as-a-girl-to-make-it-in-the-idol-industry genre. :) It’s not as typically boy meets girl as something like W Juliet is…

Hope you get to read lots of manga, too, even if you don’t get to buy it!

  • 57. kizo  |  June 8, 2008 at 4:28 pm

I-I cross-checked your list with mine, and found out that you don’t have some of the series I have and really love @_@ though lots of the one’s I want, you have. lotsssss~

Alien Nine, Aqua, Banana Fish, Chikyu Misaki, Claymore, Emma, From Eroica With Love, Hellsing, Petshop of Horrors, Saikano, and Welcome to the NHK

^are the ones you don’t have, but i think you probably could have them and just not have them listed yet. I-I’m not sure if you know about all of them, but. You should totally get From Eroica With Love if you don’t have it already! It’s from the seventies and is shojo and is about this really flamboyant theif and his. exploits. D: I don’t think I explain it well, but it’s really great~

@_@ mwaah, I would explain all these series to you, but I feel like some of them you probably have, ’cause they really seem like one’s you would like a lot.

  • 58. Pertsa  |  June 19, 2008 at 1:42 pm

Amazing! Have you count how many volumes you have in total?

  • 59. pajcat  |  June 19, 2008 at 6:08 pm

Ah, not for a while. I think last time I checked I was getting close to 2000. I feel kind of like a geek for counting though. :)
