Anime: good for what ails ya

I’m back!  Sort of.  I was going to blog a bit last week and thought I’d have the perfect chance when I stayed home from work for three days after getting sick but… I was too sick.  Unsurprisingly I spent all three days in bed trying to read or breathe and had a total lack of interest in my computer.  :)  One thing I DID manage to do was have a Ghost Hunt anime marathon – 17 episodes all at once.  Not hard to do since I was bed-ridden anyway.   (I didn’t even manage to get any manga read, grumble grumble)

I ended up really enjoying Ghost Hunt.  There were few surprises since it matches the manga very closely, but the animation is great and the voices worked really well for me.   Well, Mai was occasionally annoying but that’s because if there was any screaming or shouting to be done it was usually her.  I can’t say whether I prefer the manga or the anime – I read the manga first so there wasn’t much suspense for me while watching.  However!  There were some genuinely creepy/freaky moments, and I think those worked better as animation.  The chills aren’t quite the same without motion, sound and timing somehow.

Yes Ghost Hunt is excellent. I got the 18th episode but I’m not sure I want to watch it until I get the rest of that particular case, so no cliffhangers!

Ha, I’m doing the same thing. Only I got #19 last night… I really did stop in a perfect place in the story.

One character I thought translated *really* well into the anime was the student president from the last story. He was always messing with people in the manga, but the voice actor did a great job at conveying his “I’m messing around with you” personality.

    If that makes sense. :)

Also, the latest volume of the manga is the story that’s starting in ep 18. And it ended on one bitch of a cliffhanger. Not sure if I want to wait for the manga or am going to cheat with the anime…

Cheaters never win. Except with cliffhangers. So go cheat on the anime.

    We’ll miss you at Theresa’s!

No idea what to say. Except I hope you feel better. And I know how you feel about having trouble breathing, I get that a lot sometimes when I’m really stressed, I think.

I’m feeling MUCH better now, thank you! And had fun browsing around in Chinatown tonight, which I haven’t done in a while. I found an Azumanga Daioh figurine set that I was coveting, but it was waaayy too expensive. :(

I really really wanted it though. Got the Japanese Fruits Basket 21 instead.

    heh heh.

I’m gonna cheat on Ghost Hunt as soon as it gets past the crazy cliffhanger. I’ve decided! The manga releases seem to be slowing down anyway.

Y’all have fun without me tomorrow. sniff! I miss you guys too. We have to plan something on Friday or Sunday. Or more than a month in advance so I can book it off.

Where do you find all the stuff in Chinatown!? I went with my friend and there was absolutely NOTHING good there.

I usually go to 222 Spadina. It’s the mall at the lights halfway between Dundas and Queen st. If you go upstairs there are a couple of stores that have models/manga/costumes/cds/etc. It’s a fast and easy way to lose some $$ fast. :)

When you get off the escalator, just keep turning left. You’ll get to the good stores eventually. :)

I’ve finished reading the six volumes of GHOST HUNT available…
    = (
Does the anime continue where volume 6 ended?!?! If yes, I will have to go to another source of mine, download and watch it… Just finished the 17th volume of Firefighter!: Daigo of the Fire Company M…he’s an idiot savant when it comes of firefighting…and an imperfect hero so that makes it more interesting…the series is a true ‘page turner’ for me.
I need to get started on the pile I have borrowed from you soon… I will let you know when I have stuff to return!

Yeah, episode 18 starts the newest story – the one that started in volume 6. I just got episode 21 but haven’t watched the last three yet. I don’t know if it’s gone past the volume 6 cliffhanger yet, but it will soon if it hasn’t already.

Have you read the Moon and the Sandals yet? It’s my favorite of the recent yaoi releases. I absolutely loved it!

I haven’t bought any of the more recent yaoi offerings because I have been a ‘bad girl’:
    a) cosplay costume is $300 (eek! Won’t be commissioning another one for a while…)
    b) bridesmaid’s dress has to be purchased (plus doing the hair, the make up, the limo, the bridal shower…)
    c) anime north (already booked a hotel room for myself and three friends…)
    d) ordered another batch of Drama Queen and Be Beautiful plus an 801 media volume from amazon.ca
    e) work got more “interesting” so let’s just say I’m going to brush off my resume just in case…
But, Moon and Scandals will be on my to buy list! Or maybe, I may ask to borrow it… Anyway, this comment is too long now…

I’m going to try this a second time…my comment disappeared!
Supposed to visit a friend this weekend…might try to download the eps in question and watch them…
Haven’t read Moon and Scandals yet… It’s on my to buy list though, if that counts…

Have to try to be tightfisted with my pay because:
    a) cosplay costume is $300 (eek! Won’t be doing this again anytime soon…)
    b) ordered some YAOI on amazon.ca (Be Beautiful, Drama Queen and an 801media volume just for kicks and giggles)
    c) bridesmaid dress needs to purchased (and hair/make up done for the ‘big day’ plus the bridal shower, wedding gift, limo ride, etc)
    d) anime north (booked a hotel already…)
    e) need to brush off resume just in case…

So I might ask to borrow Moon and Scandals…

And I forgot to ask you what manga you ordered. I haven’t seen any new DramaQueen stuff, I think.

For be beautiful and drama queen i check either their site, amazon, or/and notice “coming attractions” at the end of the volume…
There seems like so much yaoi manga is coming out this year…and sometimes it seems so much more expensive than the other series I read and buy. sob!
Might be strong… Can’t break down until may…
